Legislation

The keeping and running of a pet shop is controlled by the Pet Animals Act  1951.  Any premises used for the purpose of trading in pet animals must have a licence issued by the City Council in accordance with the Act.Relevant acts : Pet Animals Act 1951 (External link)

New applications

If you wish to apply for a Pet Shop licence, you may download our Licence to keep a Pet Shop (pdf, 30 KB) application form.Please send completed application forms to :Kennet District Council - Licensing Section

Devizes  SN10 2ATThe Licensing Section will issue a licence following a satisfactory inspection by our Animal Welfare Officer.
Premises are then subject to inspection annually upon renewal of the licence.
