T.E.N.s (Temporary Event Notices)

Top

Last revised: 8 January 2009

Anyone who wishes to hold an event involving any form of licensable activity (sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment or provision of late night refreshment) in premises which are not already licensed for that activity must now serve a Temporary Event Notice (TEN)

This includes extensions of hours or additional licensable activities in premises which are already licensed.

The Temporary Event Notice replaces the old occasional licence system.

Two copies of the T.E.N.s must be served on the Licensing Authority at least 10 clear working days before the event is due to take place. This does not include the day of receipt of application or the day of the event. These notices must be sent to :-

The Licensing Department
Kennet District Council
Browfort
Bath Road
Devizes
SN10 2AT

A copy of the T.E.N.s must also be served on the Police at the same time, by sending it to :-

The Licensing Officer
Wiltshire Police
Trowbridge Police Station
Polebarn Road
Trowbridge
BA14 7EP

When the T.E.N. is recieved by the Licensing Authority, the copy is endorsed and returned to the applicant.  Unless a counter-notice is then served by the Licensing Authority, the event can take place as requested.

Fee -  The fee for each T.E.N. is £21, if paying by cheque this should be made payable to Kennet District Council, this must be included with the notice served on the Licensing Authority

A T.E.N. can include the sale of alcohol.  Where alcohol is being sold under a T.E.N. ther is no requirement for the person selling the alcohol to be the holder of a Personal Licence.

The current limits on Temporary Event Notices are :-

*    Maximum number of people at the event at any one time is 499
*    Maximum duration of the event is 96 hours
*    Minimum period between T.E.N.s is 24 hours
*    Maximum number of days in a calender year that T.E.N.s may be used for a particular premises is 15
*    The Maximum number of T.E.N.s that can be served by one person in any calender year is :-

5 for people who do not hold a Personal Licence
50 for people who do hold a Personal Licence

Note:    A T.E.N which covers a period which extends over midnight uses up 2 of the available event days.  There must be a 24 hour gap between the end of one T.E.N. period and the start of the next one.
