Legislation

The Vehicle Crimes Act 2001 and the Motor Salvage Operations Regulations 2002 places responsibility on Kennet District Council to make provisions for the registration of motor salvage operators carrying on a business within Kennet. The aim of the legislation is to make it much harder for criminals to dispose of stolen vehicles through the motor salvage industry, and will increase the chance of detection if they do.Any person carrying on a business involved wholly or partly in the recovery of salvageable parts from motor vehicles for resale or the purchase of written-off vehicles and their subsequent repair and resale will require to be registered with the Council.
