Kennet District Council sends a warning out to all residents about donating to appeals for Third World countries.
Currently a company has collections taking place throughout Kennet and has posted flyers indicating when they will collect the goods.
The company states that it will provide people in Third World countries with clothes, cosmetics, toiletries, perfumes etc. They also state that they provide jobs in both Third World companies as well as the UK.
The Charity Commission warned residents not to be misled by companies who give the impression of being a charity when indeed they are a profit-making company.
This company is not a registered charity but a Limited company and consequently the items may be sold for profit.
Kennet District Council would encourage people who want their clothes etc to go to a genuine case, to check whether a charity is registered with the Charity Commission, and if in any doubt take all goods to a local charity shop.
Kennet District Council has not issued any permits to this Company. The matter is being investigated by Trading Standards and the local Police.
If you have any concerns about a collection, whether it be in the street or from your own home, please do not hesitate to contact the Licensing Office on 01380 724911 extension 618.
