The Corporate Finance department provides a comprehensive service covering all aspects of finance relevant to a Shire District Council. We work in partnership with all the departments of the Council to provide them with cohesive financial support. The department carries out the following functions:

  • All Accountancy Functions including comprehensive budget preparation & control and completion of the Final Accounts process through to publication of the Council’s Statement of Accounts;

  • Preparation of the Medium Term Financial Strategy;

  • Financial support and advice to Managers, Directors and Members;

  • A full Internal Audit Service;

  • Treasury Management including cashflow and investments;

  • VAT advice and other general taxation advice;

  • Accounts Payable;

  • Accounts Receivable

  • Payment of all wages, salaries and Member’s Allowances;

  • Maintaining the Council’s insurance policies and claims handling;

  • Risk Management.

In addition, members of the department represent the Council on a variety of other professional networks:

  • CIPFA West of England Insurance Group

  • ALARM

  • Agresso Local Government User Group

  • West of England Finance Managers Group

  • VAT Network
