Kennet District Council (‘the Council’) has developed this statement because we want you to feel confident about the privacy and security of your personal information


Your right to privacy is very important to us and we recognise that when you choose to provide us with information about yourself, you trust us to act in a responsible manner. We believe this information should only be used to help us provide you with a better service. That's why we have put a statement in place to protect your personal information.

We will not provide any of your personal information obtained via the website to other companies or individuals unless required to do so by law.

Whenever you provide sensitive information (for example, a credit card number to make a payment), we will ensure all reasonable steps to protect it, such as encrypting your card number. We will also take security measures to protect your personal information in Credit card numbers are used only for payment processing and are not retained for marketing purposes.

The Use of Personal Information


If you register, we will treat you as having consented to our using your personal data in the manner described in this Statement. If you do not register, the personal data we collect from you will be limited to that which you give us in order to enter into any transactions online. The Council will use that data in order to facilitate that transaction and for no other purpose.

Users have an option on our website to provide views and comments about the website, the Council and its services. The information provided by users via this service will be acted upon according to the content of the communication. The Council may contact users in order to reply to the issues raised. This contact will be via email, unless an alternative is specified.

The Council will retain all communications received in order to produce statistical analysis reports on the comments received.

The Council complies with and is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 (‘the Act’) and takes all reasonable care to prevent any unauthorised access to your personal data.

We will respond promptly to any request to remove photographic images and/or personal data from the website where the person making such a request has a right to do so under the Act.

How does the Council protect your data


When you register details with us, make an order or access account details, we use a secure server. Any data you give us is encrypted using a 'Secure Socket Layer' (SSL) session. SSL is an industry standard and is one of the best ways to ensure Internet messages are not intercepted. You should be aware, however, that older browsers cannot use SSL. Over and above what the Council do to safeguard your privacy and security, there are a number of things you can do to protect yourself from Internet fraud:

Choose a password you can remember but others will not guess, change it regularly, and if you do write it down, keep it somewhere safe and secure.

The Ordnance Survey mapping included within this web-site is provided by the Council under licence from Ordnance Survey in order to fulfil its public function to make available Council held public domain information. Feedback & Competitions


From time-to-time, our Website requests information from users via feedback forms or contests. Participation in these surveys or competitions is entirely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose any information requested which may include contact information (such as name and address details), and demographic information (such as postcode or age).

Contact information will be used to notify the winners and the award of prizes. Feedback information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the functionality of the Website.

Photographic images


Photographic images of individuals are treated as personal data. Images of crowds in a public area are not. When taking photographs intended for publication on our website or elsewhere, it is our policy to seek the written permission of any individuals who are photographed.

Third party sites
