Council Tax is a property-based tax which is payable on most domestic properties. A domestic property is usually a house or a flat, but it also means other types of property where people can live, such as a houseboat, a caravan, or a 'granny flat' for instance.
Council Tax is based on the Band of a property, the Bands are set by the local Valuation Office Agency (VOA), an agency of the Inland Revenue. Follow for the VOA website (External link)
Your council tax helps to pay for services provided at all levels of local government – county, district and town or parish councils, as well as the police and fi re authorities.
