What if my circumstances change?

You should tell us straightaway of any changes, supplying evidence of your new circumstances.

You must tell us about the following changes

An increase or decrease in the money you or your partner gets. For example changes to the following:

  • Benefits

  • Pensions

  • Tax Credits

  • Wages

  • Capital

  • Any other income.

If you receive Pension Credit (either Guarantee or Savings Credit) then any changes to your income, capital or household (except changes to rent) should be reported to The Pension Service, their telephone number is 0845 606 0265 or their website is www.thepensionservice.gov.uk (External link)

Please note if you receive Savings credit and your capital increases in excess of £16,000 you are no longer entitled to Housing or Council Tax Benefit and you must inform us immediately of this change.

Changes to your House/Household. For example changes to the following:

  • Your rent increases or decreases

  • You change address

  • You are absent from the property (e.g. holiday, hospital, caring for a sick friend or relative)

  • The number of people in your house changes (e.g. you have a baby or someone dies)

  • A partner comes to live with you, or

  • A partner leaves.
