We have no dogs up for re-homing at the momentThere is a minimum £25 re-homing fee to cover some of the costs of boarding the animal. There is also an additional fee of £10 for identi-chipping the dog.
All healthy stray dogs must be retained for 7 days to give their lawful owner an opportunity to reclaim them. After the 7 days the Local Authority can put the dog up for re-homing. Kennet has a no destruction policy unless the animal is unsuitable for re-homing due to illness or temperament.
We welcome contacts from people looking to re-home dogs. Potential owners must speak to the Animal Welfare Officer to arrange for a visit to the kennels to see the dog on 'neutral' territory. The kennel staff and the Animal Welfare Officer will be able to give advice on the behaviour that the dog has exhibited whilst at the kennels.
If this visit is positive then the Animal Welfare Officer will do a home visit to check that the home environment is suitable for the animal to be re-homed. This will include fencing around the garden, other dogs/pets, children, people at home during the day, etc. Please note that the outcome of the home check is specific to the animal to be re-homed and that in some circumstances the animal may not be suitable for a particular premises/owner. The decision of the Animal Welfare Officer is final.
All re-homed animals must be fitted with a collar and identification tag prior to handing over to the new owner. Owners must also agree to ensure that the dog has the appropriate inoculation injections and receives appropriate veterinary care.
