There is currently 24 staff in the Environmental Protection service (follow to organisation chart pdf format). The Section is headed by the Environmental Protection & Housing Services Manager, Mandy Bradley, who is also a qualified Environmental Health Officer.
Our officers carry out the ‘traditional’ activities you would expect such as food hygiene inspections, health & safety enforcement, and dealing with complaints about food, noise, pollution and pest control. However, over recent years the emphasis of the profession has been moving towards public health and the broader health agenda, and promoting sustainable development in Kennet and the service is becoming far more involved in promotional activities as well as our traditional enforcement role.
To achieve these aims, the service is moving towards a more proactive role within Kennet for example:
Improving housing standards for people in the private sector
Health promotion and education
Promoting energy efficiency and tackling fuel poverty
Promoting sustainable practice such as buying 'Fairtrade' products
Tackling anti-social behaviour through partnership working
We are also working on a daily basis with other agencies such as the Wiltshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, Wiltshire Primary Care Trust, Sarsen Housing Association, and the Kennet Community Safety Partnership.
