Sports Club Development

Last revised: 30 September 2008

The development of quality sports clubs is vital to achieve the 1% increase per annum in physical activity targeted by central government.

Therefore, Kennet District Council is keen to work with sport clubs who have the goal of gaining their National Governing Body Club Accreditation, or simply wish to improve the infrastructure of their club so giving a higher quality product to its members.

Kennet District Council works closely with the Wiltshire & Swindon Activity and Sports Partnership (WASP) and Devizes School in the area of sports club development.

Leisure Development officers use the WASP Club Accreditation tool (External link) where appropriate and have created, with Devizes School, a database of sports clubs in the Kennet district, called Sports Central (External link). (External link)

Work is presently being carried out in partnership with North Wiltshire District Council with a view to establishing a club development forum covering the Mid-Wilts and Avon Valley School Sports Partnership areas.

The clubs involved in the North Wilts and Kennet Club Accreditation programme have met twice and are making good progress towards their accreditation. The introductory presentation is available by clicking on North Wilts and Kennet Club Accreditation Programme.
