Tidworth Community Area Adventure and Alternative Sports Club

What is T2a?

T2a is the ‘Tidworth Community Area Adventure and Alternative Club’

This was a bit long winded for the young people so they call it

‘Tidworth to Adventure’ or Teenager to Adult

The club gives young people the opportunity to participate in adventure and alternative activities in a social and safe environment. Along with qualified coaches and workers to support them.

The idea of the club has come through young people having their say in their community at various consultations. Kennet District Council and the Tidworth development trust got together to do a joint project. We have some other major partners; Ministry of Defence and the Army Welfare Service are supporting the work that we are doing.

That is funded by the Big Lottery, Sustain the plain and Sports Relief.

We have taken young people on trips away including:

Cheddar gorge hike

Kayaking trip

Costwolds water park – saling, canoeing, raft building, archery, kayaking and bridge building

Moors Valley country park – mountain biking and orienteering

Brecon Beacons – 3 day adventure weekend of gorge walking, rock climbing, mountain biking and much more.

Mountain Boarding trip to All Cannings

The aims of the club are:

•Engage young people that would not be interested in traditional sport

•Making young people more physically active in a social environment providing new opportunities for personal development and life skills

•Provide quality youth and sports provision for young people (includes young people that are already interested and involved in traditional sports)

•Making adventure club mainstream and sustainable

T2a Forum

The T2a forum is a place where young people are given the opportunity to have their say about the club that they belong to. So we invited all the members of T2a to come a long to an informal meeting to discuss issues.

The first meeting was in December with 16 young people.

The forum has gone from strength to strength and we now have a young person that chairs the meeting and helps put together the agenda.

The current topics of discussion are:

•Future and new activities

•Trips and outings

•Evaluation of current activities

•Social events

The forum will be used in the wide community area as well as feeding into the wider youth community meetings such as locality young people’s issues groups that are set up by the youth service.
