The Inspector’s Report on the Public Local Inquiry into the Replacement Local Plan was received on April 9th 2003. The Inspector Mr R L Muers, was appointed by the Secretary of State to hold a public inquiry into objections to the Replacement Kennet District Local Plan. The inquiry was held at The Corn Exchange, Devizes, between 12 March 2002 and 20 August 2002, and sat on 38 days.

The Inspector welcomed the council’s approach to the preparation of the Plan and stated that it is more concise than the current plan and he did not find it necessary to recommend any major restructuring. Consequently, most recommendations in the Report deal with individual sites or the detailed wording of individual policies. The Inspector welcomed the “thorough public consultation exercise” carried out by the Council and said that the extensive consultation meant that the preparation of the Plan was informed by a good understanding of the opinions of the residents of Kennet and other interested persons.

Copies of the Inspector’s Report are available in the District Council Offices at Browfort, where copies may also be purchased.
