The Local Development Framework is a set of documents which will provide the spatial planning framework for the district and includes both Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents. These documents contain the policies used to determine planning applications.

A main principle of the LDF is that it is a continuous process; with documents being updated as and when it is necessary to do so. The role of the Local Development Scheme is to show the programme of work for the first three years and will be updated annually to reflect the changing requirements of the LDF. This will mean that the timetable remains relevant and achievable and will give scope for new Local Developments Documents to be produced where necessary.

Statement of Community Involvement (Sept '05) - Adopted Version

This document sets out how Kennet District council enables all sections of the community to have an active role in planning for the futre. It applies to all planning policy documents and planning applications.

Local Development Scheme (pdf, 1119 KB) – Adopted Version
The Local Development Scheme (LDS) sets out the planning policy documents the Council proposes to produce and the timetable for their production. The initial version of the LDS was brought into effect March 2005 and a subsequent revision came into effect on 18th 2006. This has been reviewed and revised in consultation with the Government Office for the South West and the Planning Inspectorate. The Council's Planning Policy Executive Committee approved the revised LDS at a meeting on 1st February 2007. Following confirmation from the First Secretary of State that he was satisfied with the amended contents, the revised LDS came into effect on 15th March 2007.

These reports are produced in December each year. They provide details on the characteristics of the district, charts to progress the production of the local development framework and they assess the effectiveness of planning policies.

Sustainability Appraisal

All planning policy documents must be subjected to a sustainability appraisal to ensure that they take into account nationally recognised principles and priorities for making progress towards sustainable development.

Evidence Base

Accurate and up-to-date information is essential to the production of documents for the LDF. Regularly collected survey information for housing, employment and retailing together with specialist in depth studies can be found by following the links below.

Development Plan Documents

A document setting out the Council’s planning policies and proposals. They are subject to community involvement, consultation and independent examination. A sustainability appraisal is required for each development plan document. Current Development Plan Documents include the Core Strategy and Devizes Town Centre Area Action Plan.

Supplementary Planning Documents

These are documents providing additional advice and information relating to a specific policy or proposal in a development plan document (DPD). They do not have DPD status and are not subject to independent examination. They include Planning Briefs
