Kennet
supports two transport partnerships. The Wiltshire Rural Transport Partnerships (WRTP) is made up of
statutory and voluntary members and through funding from the Countryside Agency, amongst others, it
is able to support projects on the ground. Projects have been varied from a mobile youth centre that
goes to villages without built youth centre facilities to SAMBA, a minibus sharing project that makes
best use of local minibuses by matching groups who need to use a minibus with minibuses that are not
in use on particular days. The WRTP is particularly concerned with social exclusion and aims to try
to alleviate this as much as possible for a variety of social groups. The partnership covers the whole
of Wiltshire and is hosted by Community First. If you want to know more about, or want to access funds
for, developing a transport scheme, contact Jasper Dorgan on 01380 722475.
The
second partnership, Kennet and Avon Transport Partnership is working with British Waterways and the
Countryside Agency to encourage more people to access the countryside and in particular the Kennet and
Avon Canal. It has worked closely with the Wigglybus to produce the Wiggly walks leaflet and with the
passenger transport unit at Wiltshire County Council to encourage people to access the canal via public
transport. The partnership has also produced the cycling route leaflet for the Kennet and AvonCanal
. This fits nicely with the council's support which encourages people to cycle along the canal by providing
maintenance funding so that users don't have to buy a permit to cycle. The partnership is hosted by
British Waterways. If you would like further information on the partnership go to www.visitkanda.com (External link)
