The
health
benefits of walking and cycling are well known. Even more importantly they can fit very easily into
everyday life by making them a method of transport that you use to get to work, school or meetings when
on business, which makes it even easier to become and remain fitter and healthier. Wiltshire Health
Promotion has lots of ideas to help you walk and pedestrian facilities in Kennet have been improved
to facilitate this. For example in Devizes the route between Couch Lane and Snuff Street . If you want
to know more about walking for health go to www.whi.org.uk (External link)
The
Kennet and Avon canal is also a nice place to walk at lunch time or in the case of some residents it
is easily accessible as a link between where they reside and where they work or go to school.
Next
time you walk your dog think about some of the canal as a possible route to work. Kennet has produced
a number of leaflets that are available from the tourist information centre.
Walking
in the Wiltshire Downs and in conjunction with the Wigglybus a ‘Wiggly Walks Guide' has been produced
to enable you to walk along various sections of the Kennet and Avon Canal using the Wigglybus to get
to your favourite parts or indeed new parts of the canal.
Kennet has
a number of footpaths that are part of the public rights of way and access to the countryside network
which is managed and maintained by Wiltshire County Council. If you would like more information on footpaths
and rights of way in your local area, follow this link -Footpaths
and Rights of Way (External link)
