Suspected Food Poisoning ? Feeling unwell ? Symptoms

If you or someone you know is experiencing stomach upsets the symptoms may include :

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Fever

  • Stomach cramps

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Bloated stomach

  • Mucus or blood in your stools

Symptoms can occur days after having consumed the food, depending on the type of bacteria involved. Foreign holidays, contaminated drinking or bathing water and in some cases, contact with animals can also cause illness with the symptoms above.

If anyone in your family has any of the above symptoms remember that personal hygiene and good housekeeping is vitally important to stop the spread throughout a family group.

Any food handlers should stay away from work and handling food for at least 48 hours after the last symptom.

Visit your GP

If your symptoms persist for 24 hours or more go to your GP for further advice.

We also strongly recommend for a faecal sample to be submitted so that the cause of the symptoms can be determined.
