Officers from Environmental Health and Protection Services Commercial Team have a statutory duty to enforce health and safety at work legislation at most industrial/factory workplaces such as shops, offices, catering premises and tyre/exhaust premises.
We carry out these duties through the inspection of premises and the investigation of complaints and accidents.
On a routine inspection, an officer will look at a range of health and safety subjects including the Health and Safety Commission’s priority topics:·
Falls from height
Workplace transport
Slips and trips
Musculoskeletal disorders
Stress
And other work activities and potential hazards:
Use and storage of equipment
Safety and maintenance of equipment
Sanitary and washing facilities
Guarding of machinery
Exposure to noise
Cleanliness
Workplace conditions
First aid
Asbestos
All serious accidents, and any which result in incapacity from work for more than three days must be reported under the provisions of the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)1995, to the enforcing authority (either Kennet District Council or the HSE depending on your type of business).
In the first instance you should contact the RIDDOR Incident Reporting Centre, who will then notify the relevant authority to investigate. All reported accidents are investigated in order to ascertain the circumstances of the accident to prevent it from reoccurring.
