What are the Centre opening and closing times?

Times vary from Centre to Centre.  You can find a current timetable on a link under the individual centres or pick up a timetable from reception.

How much does it cost to swim?

All prices can be found on this site, go to the Centre page and select the prices option.

Do you have a membership scheme?

Leisure Centre customers can apply for a Leisure Card giving the following benefits:

  • Use all three Kennet Leisure Centres with just one card;

  • Book activities over the phone up to 7 days in advance;

  • Purchase credits to redeem for use of certain activities;

  • Receive regular information on activities, special events and promotions;

  • Purchase a direct debit membership and save money;

Cost of Annual membership scheme:

Adult = £10.00 per annum

Senior = £10.00 per annum

Junior = £5.00 per annum

Youth = £5.00 per annum

How do I get a Leisure Card?

Application forms are available on the web site or at reception in the Centres.

Can I pay by Direct Debit?

The Council has a direct debit scheme.  Application forms can be obtained at reception in the Centres.

Do you offer concessions for low income families?

Our concessionary scheme is aimed at ensuring that leisure opportunities are available to all.  Discounts are available for full time students over 18 years and individuals receiving benefits.  Parties, special bookings, clubs and promotions are not included in the scheme.  Full details of the scheme are available from any of the Centres.

What is the Validate Scheme?

A Validate UK Card is a national voluntary proof of age card.  Having a card gives young people the chance to get great discounts at Marlborough, Devizes and Tidworth Leisure Centres on a wide range of activities.

How can I get a Validate Card?

Ask at school or at any of our Centres.

Do children have to be accompanied by adults to swim and what is the ratio?

All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16+ who is a competent swimmer.  The recommended ratio is 1 adult to every 2 children.

What is the pool temperature?

The pool temperature is 29.5 degrees.  This is within the recommended guide lines and is suitable for both families and competitive swimmers.

When is the pool open for public use?

You can find a timetable on this site under the different sections or you can pick up a copy at reception in any of the centres.

At what age can my children start swimming lessons?

At the age of four months.  These sessions are parent and baby sessions and the parent must be in the water.  From the age of 3 years children can take up lessons without being accompanied by an adult.

At what age can children go swimming on their own?

8 years old.  They must be competent swimmers and be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool if requested.

Do I have to have an induction to use the gym?

Yes.  All users regardless of whether a previous gym user must complete an induction.

How old to I have to be before I can start using the gym.?

You can use the Cardio Vascular equipment from the age of 12 and following a full induction you will be able to use the other equipment.

At what age can I come unaccompanied to the gym?

From the age of 14.  You must, however, come to a staffed session.  From the age of 16 you can use the gym unaccompanied and without a staff member being present.

How old must my child be before I can use the crèche?

8 weeks providing they have had their first injection.

How old do I have to be to take part in an aerobics class?

You can come alone from the age of 16.  14 and 15 year olds can come and join in as long as they are accompanied by an adult aged 16+.

Do I have to be a member to swim and use the crèche?

You do not have to be a member to swim or to participate in any activity.  However you do get cheaper rates as a member.  You must be a member to use the gym facilities.

What is the minimum age for Junior Climbing Sessions and where and when are they held?

Junior climbing sessions are held at Tidworth Leisure Centre.  The minimum age is 9 years old.  Sessions are held at 10.30am and 12 noon each Saturday except bank holiday weekends.

Do you do birthday parties at your Centres?

A range of parties are available at all our Centres, a brochure is available on request.  Food is available with a choice of hot or cold food.  Staffing costs are included in the price.  Contact the Centres direct for more details.

Do you do coaching courses at the Centres?

How do I contact the National Governing Bodies of Sport?

What does the authority do under Sports Development?

The Sports Development Team offer a range of services all geared towards increasing and developing sport and leisure opportunities across the Kennet district.

Do you do any work with schools?

We work with schools by providing sports activities as part of the National Curriculum.  The Development Team also run annual primary school sports festivals.

Do you run special activities during the school holidays?

Our Activate programme runs during the school holidays, you can find the programme on this site.  Activities are run at all the Centres and our team also operate across the district visiting nominated villages.

Do you run any special schemes for the less able?

We have a policy of integration and work towards delivering this.  Special sessions are held at the Leisure Centres on a weekly basis.

What is the aim of your Cultural Strategy?

The aim of the strategy is to help to widen the appeal of the Kennet area as a place to live, work and visit.

What is WASSP?

The Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Partnership (WASSP) is a successful collaboration between the major deliverers of sport in Wiltshire.  The partnership consists of local authority sports development officers, governing body sport development officers, Sports Coach UK, the English Federation of Disability Sport, schools and Sport England.

What is Rural Arts Wiltshire?

Many opportunities to take part in the Arts in Kennet are made possible by the successful working partnership that exists between the four district councils.  Wiltshire’s Rural Touring Scheme (RAW) helps village communities to get together to organise and enjoy professional arts on their own doorstep.  Many of the UK’s finest artists will be performing in Wiltshire in the coming year.  More information can be found by following the links on this site.

Is Kennet a member of the Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership?

WYAP is a unique organisation, an active working partnership between Kennet, Salisbury, West Wiltshire and North Wiltshire District Councils, Wiltshire County Council Youth Development Service and Arts Council England, South West.

What grants are available to me as an artist/voluntary arts group/community group?

The District Council has a limited amount of funding for small grants.  We are keen to be involved in partnership funding and are happy to advise on other sources of funding.  Our grant aid policy can be found under the Grants Page (Access via the A to Z of Services)

Where can I find other information about support for artists and arts groups?

Go to the Arts Council website and you will find a good source of information.  You will also find a link on the main leisure page.

What is the PAWS Scheme?

PAWS is a programme of participatory arts projects that gives groups across Wiltshire the opportunity to work with a professional artist on a concentrated project. Each project runs for a minimum of 8 hours spread over 2 - 4 visits to your group. Groups need to provide a suitable venue for the project. This menu is for projects that will take place anytime between October 2003 & March 2004. More details can be found on this site.
