The district has an extremely rich historic heritage
which is reflected in various designations including:
A World Heritage Site covering Avebury and West Kennett
75 Designated Conservation Areas
Almost 4000 listed buildings
Almost 500 Scheduled Ancient Monuments
70% of the district is included within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
The Conservation Team undertakes a wide range of duties aimed at assisting with the long-term stewardship of the historic and natural environments of the district. This is achieved by offering expert advice, leading by example and using persuasion and intervention where required. The main objective is to encourage widespread understanding, care, maintenance and enjoyment of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations.
