On Street Parking Scheme - Devizes
THE SYSTEM
The system provides simple regulations for control of the 235 On street parking places.
The centre of the town is split into two ‘parking places’, an inner 1 hour area (the commercial heart of the town) with ‘green’ banded signs. An outer 2 hour area (serving other important facilities) has yellow banded signs. The permitted length of stay is stated on the signs in each space, i.e.
Once motorists leave a parking space they may not then return to a space with the same coloured sign within the ‘no return’ time shown on the signs (3 hours to the green area or 2 hours to the yellow area).
It is expected that most people making short visits to the Town will be able to use this system to accomplish most of their tasks. If longer is needed the pay and display car parks provide all day parking.
The Parking Officers using their hand held computers will strictly enforce the time limits. This will ensure that these valuable spaces are properly used and that there is a turnover of available spaces for everyone.
