Black boxes full of recyclables for collection are now a common sight on Kennet’s streets. Although houses are currently well catered for in terms of kerbside recycling coverage, multiple dwellings or flats have tended to be excluded because of problems with storage and collection. Many blocks of flats have ‘bulk’ collections of waste, where rubbish is collected in large bins often situated in bin stores or compounds. A kerbside collection of recycling is not feasible or practical in these situations.
Residents living in flats in Kennet can now get in on the act of recycling as the Council has introduced Mini Recycling Sites where paper, cans and glass can be recycled using wheeled bins. There is a bin for each material, one for paper, a second for green glass, a third for clear glass, and another for brown glass and the fifth for tins, cans, aerosols and foil.
The Council are urging all residents to get involved to help increase Kennet’s recycling rate. Further information on recycling can be viewed on the main Recycling page.
Residents in multiple dwellings that are issued with the Mini Recycling Sites will also be provided with black recycling baskets. The baskets are for residents to store their paper, glass and cans before emptying them into the communal recycling bins. If you live in a flat and would like a basket, please contact Kennet District Council on Tel: 01380 724911.
If you are interested in joining this scheme, please get in touch with your housing management team and ask them to contact Kennet District Council on 01380 724911 or e-mail 'kennet@kennet.gov.uk'. The Council is unable to deal with requests from individual residents.
